Prithviraj Kothari of RiddiSiddhi Bullions (RSBL) — how he became the Bullion King
Prithviraj Kothari is known in India's gold market as the "Bullion King". This Shatabdi Gaurav profile describes him as a man of big vision and determination, whose company RiddiSiddhi Bullions (RSBL) is described as India's largest gold importer.
He was born on 1 September 1962 in Bhinmal, in Rajasthan's Jalore district, the youngest son of the businessman Saremalji Kothari and Badamidevi. He has three elder brothers and a younger sister. The profile says the Kothari family has been in the gold business for around 30 years, and that RSBL is counted among the top ten unlisted companies in India. At the time of the profile, it said that RSBL had the highest annual gold trading of any company.
Kothari is president of the Bombay Bullion Association (he held the post before as well) and national president of the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA). The profile credits him with bringing gold ETFs to India and launching RSBL Spot, a counter bullion trading system.
He is a founding member and director of Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO), chairman of the Jain Administrative Training Foundation (JATF), which supports young Jains towards the civil services, a trustee of Shraman Arogyam, president of the Bhinmal Welfare Association and a trustee of Mohankheda Tirth.
He has twice received the Jain Samaj Ratna Award, once from the then President Pratibha Patil and once from then Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, and has also received the Darshan Sagar Award from Nakoda Darshan Dham, the Bombay Bullion Association's 6th award, An Influence Industry Award and the GJTCI Excellence Award.
His view is that trust is the basis of business and that a person who grows fast is one who takes firm decisions, even harder than his own ability, instead of staying undecided.
